I haven’t taken a real vacation in 3 years, so the time has come. Since my entire family lives in South Africa the natural choice is to go back home, so in March I’ll be taking a much needed break to visit the place where I was born and raised.
I feel lucky to have grown up in Cape Town, a city that will always give me unbounded comfort and inspiration. I literally couldn’t sleep the night after I booked my flights. Aahhh…to be in the presence of my parents & brothers, to connect with people that I adore, to soak up the vibe, as well as the sublime natural beauty of the place…
Not much will be planned before I go (that’s the way things roll in Cape Town), except for a little bit of this:

Yes, I’m excited. And as a designer I can’t wait to pick up on all the creative energy, and I am delighted to remind all of you that Cape Town has been nominated as the World Design Capital 2014. Needless to say I’ll come back to Chicago fully charged and ready to plan the next trip back.
Thank you, Andrew Brauteseth, for allowing me to share your magnificent photography. I owe you a glass of wine my friend.

Cape Town nominated for World Design Capital 2014? You mean designated?
Cape Town is your World Design Capital 2014.
Argh! You’re right. That’s what I meant to say!!!
YAY! We look forward to seeing you! Send us your dates – Cape Town is totally magic at this time of the year – everyone outdoors and sun touched! xx
Can’t wait to get there. My last trip was in March as well, and yes, it’s a fantastic time of the year to be there. See you soon!
Daaang, I want to go too. Put me in your suitcase?
Also, do your kids read your blog?
I love South Africa and Cape Town is an amazing city. SO jealous of your travel plans!
Wow! You’ve been?
Yes- during World Cup. Best holidays ever!
Oh wow, that is amazing. I am sad that I didn’t go. Lucky you!!!
Hi Adele – saw that you participated in the Color Chat the other night, so I wanted to say “hi” on your blog.
Those photos of Cape Town are just beautiful I want to go now. Great to hear Cape Town was designated as World Design Capital. How thrilling!
Glad to meet you via Social Media. If you can, check out my blog – I am doing a great “Giveaway” this week – a Handpainted Paint Color Fan Deck of beautiful colors. Makes color choosing a breeze, especially since the swatches are made of actual paint colors (not pictures).
Bye for now…following you on Twitter as well
Linda
Me and my Husband are going to cape Town in January. We are flying with KLM but Im just worried about how our son is going to be with such a long flight ( We are flying from Ireland) does anyone have any tips for a happy flight? And also do the plane have cot beds for babies, or does he have to fall asleep in my arms?. Thanks a million..
Why are you worried? KLM is great!
